Dear SAS parents and students,

Welcome back! After a wonderful and restful summer vacation our school year 2018-2019 is right on. As every year, musical activities are coming soon enough to bless our lives with the incredible power of music. It will be my pleasure and privilege to be there, along the way, doing my best to ensure our children are exposed to a diversity of musical experiences that will provide for them plenty of fun, spiritual growth, and lifelong skills in a Christ-centered environment.

Many Blessings,
Mr. Jose A. Bornot

Learning

Effective Date: Monday, April 1, 2019

During the week of April 1, SAS students from Kinder to 8th grade levels will practice during music class songs for the First Friday School Mass scheduled on 04.05.19. During the only two full weeks of classes in April this year (April 1-5, and April 8-12), students will spend time practicing the songs for the next May Crowning mass to be celebrated on May 3. As an ongoing task, all classes from PK2 to 8th grade will spend time learning/reviewing new and old music theory concepts related to symbols such as staff, 4-beat pattern and counting whole, half, quarter, eighth, and sixteenth notes and rests. As time permits, during these two weeks students will learn/review about the concepts of pitch, intonation, rhythm, tempo and dynamics. Students from 3rd grade and up will start reviewing the C scale and solfeggio system (Do, Re Mi…,) and will also continue to drill the simple straight 4-beat pattern. Different activities on each of these objectives will be assessed -including classwork, homework, quizzes and tests until the end of the 4th Quarter, including vocal/instrumental responses.

Grade Level Class Activities
PK, Kinder, 1st and 2nd Grade Sing/Play all school mass songs included in the 4th quarter. Count and play 4-beat rhythm patterns.

All Grade Levels Implement pre-mid-post assessment activities including a diversity of questioning, exit tickets, quizzes, testing grade evaluations, and music performing tasks related to the objectives.

Resources

Advanced Practice Rhythm Chart Samples / Grade Levels 4 to 8
SAS students from grade levels 4 to 8 may use these links to open-review-print student-created advanced rhythm charts from previous years. They are appropriate for IV Quarter but students may try them in advance.

In the long run these wonderful rhythm exercises should be thoroughly developed step by step, with specified requirements as instructed by the teacher, Learning and rehearsing every detail individually and by groups should be achieved approximately towards the end of the school year.

Our SAS students from grades 4 to 8 will immensely benefit from these special exercises that will enhance at once sight reading as well as percussive instrumental skills.
