During the first two weeks of February all SAS classes from Pre-Kinder to 8th grade will spend time preparing the songs for our Ash Wednesday school mass to be celebrated on 02/14/18. Vocal/instrumental responses in music class will include singing/playing this mass' songs and different types of formative (pre-mid) assessment activities. A testing grade on this objective will be assessed for every student on or before the second week of February. The song lineup for Ash Wednesday mass includes "Draw Near," "Lord Let Me Walk," "Via Dolorosa," "Were You There," and other traditional Lent tunes. Also, during February, from 4th to 8th grade levels all SAS students will prepare an individual or group project/presentation on a relevant African American musician (singer, producer, composer, or instrumental performer.) During the whole month students will continue learning/reviewing/reinforcing new and old music theory concepts as well. Classical music highlights of the month to be revisited are German Baroque composer George Frideric Handel and the genial Polish pianist and composer of the Romantic era Frédéric Chopin.
